Ain’t it just grand that the two of us, while busy making our plans, for our wildly unpredictable lives, that God is just laughing, and then he sighs, a deep and heavenly sigh. And I’m sitting on a cloud looking down, Wondering what it all means, if it means anything at all, I can’t tell now, but if there’s anyone it’s me who knows, There are some things you can’t figure out, At least for now, I’m not afraid to ask If the smudges on the glass are a sign, From up above, that we’re better off getting back to making our plans.

Dancing with the falling leaves, they are perfect company, They are quiet dancers, and they know their dance steps. Then, I take the lead. Introduce a different melody. I know I’m not on Broadway, but man I got that feeling. That I’m a verse away from breaking out, Breaking out among the restless crowd, Let them witness what I’m all about, Let them eat it off the floor, Is that not what they came here for? To groove, feel my moves, I am breaking branches, turning leaves to ashes. Now I am higher than the canopy, Looking down upon the restless streets Setting fire to the falling leaves, Watch them all go up in smoke, Is that what you came here for? Fire and melody, Satisfy my primal and burning need, To move among the branches, and fallen leaves, They are quiet dancers.

Dead leaves on the dirty ground. I don’t know where it's safe and where it’s not to step. Every stride is a tender spot. Some more than others. Some hold more than you’d expect. I take the hand of my bigger brother. I let him know I’m in his hands and to not let me go. Because I’m in over my head. But there’s no other place that I’d rather be. Because I know I’m in good hands. We made it up to the train trestle, Made it to the spot on the map we read before we left. Looking out, share an in and exhale, He lets me forget, for a moment, all those tender steps. I know I’m in good hands, I know I’m in good hands. He never meant, to go in over his head, But I know that he’s now in good hands. He never meant, to go in over his head, But I know that he’s now in good hands. I miss him now more than ever. I miss him now that I know, I know that he’s gone. When we lived our lives together. We never imagined that we’d ever be apart
4.
A leaf snaps from its limb And freely floats to the ground I am there to witness it I am there to hear the sound On a fallen log from a nearby stand Gives me rest beside the path No one sees me sitting here No one sees me in my dream In my dream Soaking up the winter breeze A blessed day in January A pause taken mid the day To join the choir of laughing birds Laughing at the boys and girls Round the highway, chasing tails But I am off, outside the frame Soaking in the winter rays In my dream In my dream Talons claw at scurried shrew Herons perche on church lake pew Mallards dawn the morning dew It all unfolds within my view In my dream In my dream
